Tuesday May 22, 2007 Current Projects
Ok,
SO its been almost a year since I have updated this site! Look for updated MP3s and new THOUGHTS sections.
For now, here are teh projects I am currently involved in -
1 - Katrin - I am playing guitar and producing her new CD. Things are sounding killer. Katrin is so gifted and I am really excited to be part of this project. Katrin and I are also putting together a live band and will be performing her songs live with a full band!
2 - Christine Fawson - gifted SInger and Trumpet player. We have done a gig together a few months back featurning some of my songs, some of hers and some NEW stuff we are writing together. More gigs to come and more writing to come. Our goal is to write, gig with the band and perhaps do a CD in teh near future.
3 - This Side of Seven - For those of you who know this band, this may come as a shock. It was my first original rock club band. I joined the band at 17 or 18. The band lasted 2 or 3 years and we played in the RI/ New Bedford/Fall RIver area constatnly. The music was doom and gloom! Think early U2, a touch of Pink Floyd and a bit more rock. After many years out of touch, we got together last week and played some very old music. I had such a blast. We plan to do a couple of reunion shows. For those of you that saw this band 'back in the day' HAVE to come see the reunion!!
4- Michael Iannantuoni - Killer drummer Mike I called me in to the studio to do a groove DVD for his website. He is offering lessons, master classes and online lessons. We performed 3 songs live and 8 short grooves for demo.
5 - Rock Covers project? Not sure about this one. I've wanted to pull out the Marshalls and get a covers set of KILLER songs (mostly obscure) and got have some fun. Songs by Led Zep, Todd Rundgren, The Tubes, Heart, Mr Mister..to name a few. Check back in the next month about this one.
6 - Beantown - Super busy 10 piece group with a great horn section and great singers. WOrking a TON this summer, mostly functions.
Sound liek a lot? NO WAY! I'm alwasy looking for new stuff, so email me if you need guitar. Work work work..play play play.

Tuesday March 21, 2006 Review of "Transitions" In Jazz Improv Magazine
Scott Tarulli
By Sean McGowan
TRANSITIONS-Tarulli Music. www.scotttarulli.com Slinkle II, Boston Nights, A Different Path, Messenger Street, Your Past, Strength To See It Through, Cry About It PERSONNEL: Scott Tarulli, electric & acoustic guitars; Dennis Hughes, keyboards & piano; Michael Iannantuoni, drums; Ervin Dhimo, bass; Jesse Bastos, bass; Lorne Entress, percussion
by Sean McGowan
Scott Tarulli is a Boston area guitarist who is currently an instructor at the Berklee College of Music. Using many different styles of music to inform his approach, Tarulli and company explore several musical landscapes on Transitions. This album is fun to listen to and simultaneously recalls the sounds of mid-70's fusion, 80's guitar music, and funk-jam bands of the 90's. Transitions offers an entirely original set of compositions by Tarulli and opens with the energetic "Slinkle II". Tarulli's raspy guitar tone blends well with Hughes's multiplicity of keyboard sounds. The band favors heavy grooves and swift breaks. While Tarulli has his own sound, his approach may be compared to those of Robben Ford, early Larry Carlton, and certainly Boston guitar hero Bruce Bartlett. He successfully balances blues-rock vocabulary with more complex modal harmony and symmetrical diminished melodies. "A Different Path" recalls the work of Daryl Stuermer with early Jean-Luc Ponty and features wah-wah guitar textures with Rhodes electric piano. It also features great solos by Tarulli, Hughes, and a Clarke/Wooten-esque bass solo by Jesse Bastos. For an independent release , the sound production is of refreshingly good quality. "Messenger Street" is a nice shuffle tune with lots of color balance between Tarulli and Hughes, who make an effective front line. "Your Past" features some pedal steel inspired swelling and a lyrical guitar melody over piano and organ pads. This tune recalls some of Brent Mason's work on his Hot Wired. Tarulli is not a clone however; he uses many different sounds and styles to augment his compositions. Transitions will definitely appeal to fans of good guitar and heavy groove oriented fusion music.

Scott did a rehearsal for the Berklee 60th Anniversary Concert last Friday with drummer Steve Gadd and bassist Abe Laboriel. The setting was full orchestra and rhythm section. "Spain" was among the selection played that night.

Wednesday April 21, 2004 Reviews
CD Review/Scott Tarulli/''Transitions'' Being of good ole'Boston stock myself, I was drawn to Tarulli's original piece, ''Boston Nights.'' Scott's affinity for the fusion side of jazz, is evident in the Abercrombie-esque rendition of this, his lovely & not easily forgotten jazz ballad. Tarulli is an engrossing jazz guitarist, creating a kind of traditional classicism in his playing style.......probably born of an innate romanticism. Suffice it to say that this body of work contained therein is Scott's vehicle for the creation of strong, expressive, & melodic musical thought. George W. Carroll/The Musicians' Ombudsman
Guitarist Scott Tarulli stretches out in the jazz fusion idiom on his new seven song offering “Transitions.” His execution is flawless as he delivers soulful fretboard excursions while exhibiting great tone and articulation throughout these superb original compositions. Navigating through the arrangements along with Tarulli are Dennis Hughes, who’s bounding keyboard work adds dimension and style to Tarulli’s writing. Punch in the fine drumming of Michael Iannantuoni and the bass work of Ervin Dhimo and Jesse Bastos and you’ve got the makings of a very solid foundation indeed. Lorne Entress adds percussion and production to two tracks while Bob St. John completes the project with his mastering savvy. Tarulli is a gifted player that we’ll surely be glad to hear more from.
